How to Reach Katra Base Camp

Transportation options connecting major Indian cities to Katra

By Train (Direct to SVDK)

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station (SVDK) connects directly with New Delhi (Vande Bharat Express, Uttar Sampark Kranti), Mumbai, Varanasi, and Kolkata.

Vande Bharat: 8 Hrs from Delhi

By Air (Jammu Airport - IXJ)

Fly into Jammu Airport (IXJ), located ~50 km from Katra. Prepaid taxis, private cabs, and AC Volvo buses operate 24/7 directly from the airport terminal to Katra.

Taxi Fare: ₹1,500 – ₹1,800 (1.5 hrs)

By Road & Expressway

NH 44 connects Jammu with Katra via a smooth 4-lane expressway. State transport (JKSRTC, HRTC, Punbus) and private Sleeper buses run from Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Jaipur.

RFID Yatra Registration (Parchi)

Compulsory tracking card for safety and entry pass

Mandatory Requirement:

Every devotee (regardless of age) must carry a valid physical RFID card around their neck throughout the yatra. Traditional paper slips are no longer valid.

RFID Collection Counters in Katra:

  • Yatra Registration Counter (YRC 1): Central Bus Stand Katra (Open 24 Hours).
  • YRC 2: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station Platform 1.
  • Tarakote Marg Counter: At the entrance gate of the new alternate track.
  • Serli Helipad Counter: For passengers holding helicopter tickets.

Traditional Banganga Route 13 km

Sacred historical trail passing through Banganga, Charan Paduka, and Ardhkuwari Holy Cave.

  • Darshan of Ardhkuwari Garbhjun Cave.
  • Ponies, Pithus, and Palkis operate on this track.
  • 5 to 6 hours walking time.

  • ✓ Wear comfortable grip trekking shoes with cotton socks.
  • ✓ Keep physical RFID Card around your neck at all checkpoints.
  • ✓ Deposit all leather goods, purses, belts, cameras, and mobiles in free Cloakrooms at Bhawan.
  • ✓ Stay hydrated with free filtered RO mineral water provided along the track.

DON'Ts (Strictly Prohibited)

  • ✕ DO NOT carry non-vegetarian food, tobacco, cigarettes, or alcohol.
  • ✕ DO NOT attempt photography or video shooting inside Bhawan or Cave precincts.
  • ✕ DO NOT pay cash overcharging to operators beyond the receipt amount.
  • ✕ DO NOT take shortcuts or jump over track railings.
